This summer I had the wonderful opportunity of acquiring an internship at Pacific Continental Bank through the Oregon Management Internship group. Charlotte B., an Executive Vice-President and Director of Commercial Real Estate Markets hired me.

My job this summer was to assist her by collecting and organizing financial data on customers as well as the markets into user-friendly reports. I feel that these tasks, and other jobs similar to them, expanded on many of the skills I have acquired during my time at George Fox. To be able to apply these skills that I have spent the last 3-4 years sharpening, was a great feeling and one of my favorite aspects of my summer internship.

Perhaps the most important part of my internship was the manner in which I worked with other people in the bank and fit into the corporate environment. Charlotte repeatedly told me how impressed she was with how well I fit into the team but also how I strived to keep busy and contribute to the team. For these reasons, as well as my success creating reports, I was invited to continue my internship throughout the school year. Without a doubt, this internship surpassed all of my expectations, and all indications seem to suggest that I surpassed all of PCBs (Pacific Continental Bank's) expectations as well.

I am happy to let you know that I accepted a position at Merrill Lynch/Wilshire Credit Corporation for this summer. I wanted to thank you for all that you have done for me. I really appreciate all the work and time you put into helping me find a quality internship.

The people [at Wilshire Credit Corporation] took a genuine interest in making sure that I could get the best experience possible. The people in my department “took me under their wing” and not only taught me what to do but explained why they did it that way. It was an amazing experience being able to work in a professional environment and getting real life experience. The company welcomed me with open arms and was eager to teach me.

OMI has allowed me to get experience in the field of Human Resources. I was able to work with upper level management who have been working in HR for many years and it has given me experience and exposure that some people might not get until years into their job.

I applied for the OMI internship because I felt the organization would help to simplify and streamline the process of searching for a meaningful, valuable internship experience.  OMI makes sure to work with organizations who are reputable to ensure a successful match for employers and employees.

I love working for Point West.  The culture is very opening, friendly, and caring.  Diversity is not only welcomed, but encouraged and valued.  My boss has made sure to create a meaningful experience for me to help further my career in marketing.

I maintain the Point West website, create advertisements, brainstorm for advertising campaigns, do statistical analysis of the annual survey, and order promotional materials for Point West.  I planned, organized, and implemented member appreciation week.  I am currently doing market research on generation Y and conducting a focus group of 16-18 year olds to obtain information about Point West products and services.

The internship which I took through OMI has allowed me to experience growth for future career ventures.  The organization is a reputable, well respected, and made sure to welcome me into the organization fully.

The OMI offers a great opportunity for junior and senior college students to transition from the classroom to the labor force. I heard about OMI through an e-mail I received through the career services office. I attended an informational session and immediately submitted an application to the OMI. I requested that I work in the Portland metropolitan area in financial services or project management. It was a long few months before I was contacted by any business for an interview. Although, I was not primarily relying on OMI, I was also applying to jobs and internships.

In early April I was contacted by Wilshire Credit Corporation, a subsidiary subprime mortgage servicing company of Merrill Lynch. The previous Summer I spent working in a loan servicing department in Minneapolis. I assume that Wilshire was interested in my resume because of that experience. I interviewed for a position in the project management department specifically developing a business continuity plan. I was offered an internship and rest is history.

OMI built a bridge between life in college and life as a member of the labor force. The internship allowed me to build relationships and integrate myself into the company. I was offered a full-time position in the operational analytics department as a financial analyst. My primary responsibility will be to build a cost of servicing model. This is an ideal position for me as a recent graduate from college. I feel very fortunate to work for Wilshire and I recommend this company to any potential intern candidate. The OMI gave me a chance and I took advantage.
